Designed an iPad app that lets engineers fully control the microchip testing machines.
3x faster and easier became actions like wafer alignment, homing, and autofocus. The testing process now allows operators to move around the machine for better visibility. Brought all essential actions to iPad using the most native approach for touch.
Core machine controls
Designed as buttons with clear states and modal triggers. Color coding helps separate control groups and makes the interface faster to scan.
Expanded controls
This is an example where the temperature block was tapped. We open a modal where operators can set targets, monitor current temperature.
Mindmap
In the beginning of the project we asked as many questions as possible as everything was unclear and very specific. On the mindmap we tried to show everything we learned about the product and highlight if we need to transfer that on iPad or not.
Research
We need to understand the common pattern for designing
the iPad Apps. That’s why we have covered some examples.
The Home app was the main reference as it covers
the following mandatory principles: overview of the whole
system generally, see the current state and be able
to change it.
Wireframes
The client did not understand how all the controls could be on one page. For this case we created A/B options where we could count amount of steps and find the easiest one to use.
Usability testing
Focus group comparing it to the existing desktop software.
